This understanding lays the foundation for positive relationships, self-regulation, and school success. Supporting social emotional development in early care and education (ECE) can simultaneously boost learning and promote healthier lifelong behaviors.
Social emotional skills impact all pieces of children’s learning, daily interactions, and development. Fostering social emotional learning can even directly support physical health. Preschoolers with stronger emotion regulation skills were found to eat fewer unhealthy foods and more healthy ones. Physical activity has been found to increase resilience and well-being, especially for people with depressive symptoms. (Greenberg, 2025)
