What is Go NAP SACC?

Go NAP SACC is an easy-to-use online tool for early care and education programs interested in building healthy eating and physical activity habits in children. Go NAP SACC is based on a set of best practices — recommendations that stem from the latest research and guidelines in the field. Programs use Go NAP SACC to improve their practices, policies, and environments and meet these best practices. Go NAP SACC leads the way to healthy change in 5 steps:

  1. Assess: Take a self-assessment to find areas for improvement
  2. Plan: Use the action planning tool to get set up for success
  3. Take Action: Use our library of tips and materials to put plans into action
  4. Learn More: Take a Go NAP SACC training and learn new skills to help kids be healthy
  5. Keep it up: Assess again, celebrate progress and plan the next move!
Who can use Go NAP SACC?

Early care and education programs: Go NAP SACC is a great tool for all early care and education programs, including family child care homes, Head Start and Early Head Start programs, centers, and school-based programs. Technical assistance providers: Technical assistance providers can help early care and education programs use Go NAP SACC and provide that extra level of personalized support. How is Go NAP SACC different from the original NAP SACC?

Go NAP SACC puts a new spin on a trusted program, the Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care (NAP SACC). Our interactive website offers:

  1. A new self-assessment, which covers best practices for serving children ages 0 to 5 in the areas of:
    • Breastfeeding
    • Infant Feeding
    • Child Nutrition
    • Physical Activity
    • Screen Time
    • Outdoor Play and Learning
  2. Online tools that personalize the NAP SACC process and make it easier than ever. These tools include:
    • Simple action plans that can be personalized to make change easy
    • An online library of tips and materials right at your fingertips
    • Online training available to program staff and teachers on-demand
  3. New tools to help technical assistance providers coach early care and education programs and monitor their progress through the NAP SACC process.
Does Go NAP SACC replace NAP SACC?

Go NAP SACC builds on the strong foundation set by NAP SACC. We encourage use of the new Go NAP SACC materials since they reflect the most up to date research and national guidelines. Go NAP SACC also offers expanded resources that can be personalized to meet the needs and goals of each program. The original NAP SACC best practices, self-assessment, action planning tools, and NAP SACC consultant training are still available through the Center for Excellence in Training and Research Translation.
